I want to know what people think about my art. I want to know what strangers think. I want someone to comment on my work and not worry about hurting my feelings because they know who I am. Where can I get this kind of feedback? I searched on-line but couldn't find anything.
Here are a few of my drawings that I scaned tonight.
Lovely work, Gena! I am very fond of hearts, and love the piece with the 3 hearts and all the lacing and weaving you did through them-beautiful! Welcome to the zentangle blog world!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful work!
ReplyDeleteI don't know of any zentangle community that gives critiques, since zentangle is about getting into a zen moment while you work. Worrying about your work takes away from that. But people will view and comment on your work at the Zentangle flickr site. They are open to giving answers to specific questions about their processes or ones you might have about your own work.
WOW! Beautiful work! I am also new to Zentangle and understand your desire for critiques--I've felt the same way. The best thing that others have given me is encouragement to keep at it. You are already light years beyond me. You seem to have a natural affinity for design and drawing. I like that you use the same patterns that others use, but seem to have the innate ability to make them uniquely your own--for example, the lacing and ribbon in the heart piece and the flower in the last piece. I'll try to mimic techniques such as that from your work, and the work of others--but I don't seem to have the ability to come up with that sort of idea on my own.
ReplyDeleteGena, your work is fantastic! It stands on it's own and does not need to be rated. If you enjoyed creating it, and you like it, then it is perfect! Zentangle is for the enjoyment and the peace that it brings. Each piece of work is a celebration of life!
ReplyDeleteHi Gena, I think your work is quite fascinating. A few of your pieces are fun and overall quite 'light'. They are well balanced (but you can choose to have them unbalanced - leave some areas free from tangles). Your shading adds depth and perspective, particularly in some of your pieces where you do this with a pen. My only thought is about shading and to think about where the light comes from and then shade accordingly - perhaps also shade behind and slightly off to the side (drop shadow) of your tangles (like your cubine tangle) which lifts it off the page. A few of us have tutorial type posts about shading but you can just google it! I only put that in there because you asked for some feedback...I think your work shows imagination and is already pretty great as it is :D
ReplyDeleteYour work is very nice. My favorite pieces are the two top right ones. You are quite good at the lacing tangles, which throw me, so I am still working on that. I think you have quite a bit of movement in the piece that is the second one down on the right--it almost seems to be an underwater scene to me...like how an anemone moves under water. If you don't already know about it, you can join in on the challenges that Laura Harms posts on her blog here: http://iamthedivaczt.blogspot.com/
ReplyDeleteIt has been a nice way to see others' work for me and to have a direction when I want it. :) Keep drawing--you have a lovely style and it will be nice to see what comes next.
Your work is so pretty! Can I ask you how you scanned them? Did you optimise them in photoshop or anything like that?
ReplyDeletecheers
Nicky
Your work is of amazing beauty. Do not doubt on your self ,you are a great artist.
ReplyDeleteGood job! I especially like the last two with the hearts and butterfly.
ReplyDeleteJust found your blog. I loved your drawings, so much detail and imagination, imho you are very very talented.
ReplyDeleteHello Gena, I am so impressed with your tangles. Looks like you have a great feeling for this kind of medium. I am also a Hines, Janice to be exact. I live in Avon, Indiana. My tangles show up as coloradojan2003 on flickr and have done a few of the diva's challenges. I am in no way an artist or a critic. I do love all that I see on your blog.
